Design for our Future

On 13 September 2013, the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering (IDE) of Delft University of Technology has organised an open house day called "Design for our Future".

Delft Inspired Design

The day started with the Delft Inspired Design symposium, where IDE academics talked on interesting research themes and projects, and IDE alumni inspired us with their tales of practical experience.

Delft Design Guide

The symposium closed with the launch of the updated and printed edition of the Delft Design Guide. The guide presents an overview of product design approaches and methods used in the Bachelor’s and Master’s curriculum at IDE. The online version of the Delft Design Guide recently won the Open Course Award for Best Text Book.

Delft Design Labs

The Delft Design Labs exhibitid around 80 research projects in the place where our researchers work: the Applied Lab, Foundational Lab, Perceptual Intelligence Lab, Physical/Ergonomics Lab, Product Evaluation Lab and the ID-StudioLab.

The ‘Made of…’ material library was also part of the exhibition, and has a permanent location within the faculty hall. The main purpose of the library is to inspire and inform students, staff and visitors and to establish a link between the (future) creative industry and the material (and manufacturing) industry.

Inaugural lecture

In the afternoon, professor Ena Voûte (dean faculty IDE) gave her inaugural lecture "Design for our Future". During the reception, you could also visit the Delft Design Guide, Delft Design Labs and the 'Made of..' Materials Library exhibitions.
